NEC FARM KATONGA LTD
NEC Farm Katonga Ltd is a subsidiary of NEC situated 90 miles South West of Kampala in Kisozi, Gomba District. The farm covers 17 sq miles of land and currently has about 370 heads of cattle consisting of mainly Borans and Boran/Brahman crosses.
The farm is being modernized to integrate beef production from the existing herd with key objectives of keeping a healthy herd for provision of quality animals to support the growing beef industry, and also provide quality breeds to benefit other Ugandan farmers.
With support from GoU and other identified business partners, the farm is implementing cattle fattening project.
Katonga Farm has been earmarked as one of the farms from where to carry out a cattle fattening project for export grade beef to supply upcoming abattoirs like the one in Bombo.
The exercise of implementing the cattle fattening project has started with the introduction of carefully selected young breeds of bulls of cattle to be grazed on natural pastures as a pilot scheme which are abundant at the farm.
Infrastructural developments are underway.
